The Rings of Power Season 3 on Prime Video: Release Schedule, Story and Cast

Middle-earth is going to war. After two seasons spent forging rings, revealing Sauron, and watching old alliances fracture, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns to Prime Video this November for its darkest chapter yet. Season 3 does not begin with a slow build; it begins in a conflict that has already reshaped the map.

When does The Rings of Power Season 3 premiere?

The Rings of Power Season 3 premieres on Prime Video on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, with its first four episodes available at launch. Episodes 5 and 6 follow on November 18, and the final two episodes close the season on November 25.

That four-two-two pattern gives viewers half the season in one opening weekend. Showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay return, and filming wrapped in October 2025.

The five-year time jump: Middle-earth at war

Season 3 picks up five years after the fall of Eregion, the devastating event that closed Season 2. In that time, Sauron’s armies have marched across much of the world, conquering land after land. Only a few isolated pockets of resistance remain between the Dark Lord and total victory.

That framing explains the change in tone. The early seasons were about deception and the slow corruption of good intentions. Season 3 is about consequences, and whether the free peoples can fight together.

At the centre is Sauron, now ruling from Mordor and working toward the forging of the One Ring in Barad-dûr, designed to rule over all other rings. The season also moves closer to the origins of the Nazgûl, as the nine rings for mortal men gradually corrupt their bearers.

Galadriel, Elrond and Gandalf: three fronts, one war

Morfydd Clark returns as Galadriel, under particular strain in Season 3. Reports describe her as grappling with intrusive thoughts and visions linked to Sauron’s influence, as well as confronting parts of her own past.

Robert Aramayo returns as Elrond, trying to hold fragile alliances together, while Daniel Weyman returns as Gandalf, now clearer about who he is and what his purpose must be. In the east, in Rhûn, Gandalf’s story tests whether wisdom can stand against raw power, including his confrontation with the Dark Wizard, played by Ciarán Hinds.

The elves defend their kingdoms with the Three Rings, while the dwarves of Khazad-dûm face division from within and a Balrog threat beneath their home. Númenor, the great island kingdom of Men, is also sliding toward civil war.

Who is in The Rings of Power Season 3 cast?

Alongside Clark, Aramayo, and Weyman, Charlie Vickers returns as Sauron, now in his rebuilt, armoured form. Benjamin Walker returns as Gil-galad, with Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur as Durin, Sophia Nomvete as Disa, Ismael Cruz Córdova, and Lloyd Owen among the returning players.

The most talked-about new addition is Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-missing husband. His arrival answers a question lingering since Season 1 and adds fresh emotional tension. Flashbacks to the First Age are also reported, including a dual role for Aramayo as Elrond and his twin brother, Elros.

Other newcomers include Eddie Marsan as Thráin, Zubin Varla as Khamûl, Andrew Richardson as Anarion, and Adam Young as Marnûkh, a mysterious new orc. Simon Pegg is also reported as the voice of the Balrog, underlining how central the creature in Khazad-dûm is set to become.

Why Season 3 matters for the whole series

The Rings of Power is based primarily on material from the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, set in the Second Age, thousands of years before Frodo’s journey. That distance gives the writers freedom, but it also creates expectation: viewers know, in broad terms, where this history leads, even if they do not know how each character gets there.

Season 3 is the midpoint of that planned arc, and midpoints are where a series proves itself. Sauron is no longer hiding behind a friendly face. The question now is whether the free peoples can win, not by being stronger than Sauron, but by refusing to become like him.
